Dreaming of Stockholm I want to share some of my memories and recommendations with you. As it might be interesting not only for German speaking visitors I write these travel tips in English.

To flee the busy center there are many wonderful places quite closed by.
Djurgården is the most wonderful piece of nature I ever saw in a capital.

Although it’s quite popular, there are still many places where you may feel as on the Swedish countryside. You just have to know how to avoid the crowded places.

Grey = Most tourists stay in this area, as it offers Gröna Lund, the Abba Museum, Liljevalchs, Skansen, the Vasa Museum and others sights. It’s very crowded and not to recommend if you like it calm.

Yellow = Rosendals. It consists of a little manor house, a restaurant “Rosendals Wärdshus“ and my most beloved cafe in Stockholm “Rosendals Trädgårdscafe“.

Blue = A peaceful and quiet area on Djurgården. If you take the bus 69 and get off at “Djurgårdsbrunn” closed to the bridge you may take a wonderful walk around this part of the island.

Rosa = Very nice villas. Unfortunately you have to be a friend of the King or at least CEO of Ericsson to get a house here. Better both.. 😉 

Orange = Only 300m from the bus station “Blockhusudden” (bus 69) you may get a glimpse on Prince Carl Philipp and his fiancé Sophia. They live in a light green villa with no fence around. Very easy going, but typical Swedish to stay a “normal” person.
I discovered the house accidentially by walking through their garden to take pictures of the nice houses.

How to get to Djurgården

From the city center it’s easiest to take the tram number 7 from Sergels torg (direction “Waldemarsudde”) or the bus number 44 (direction “Skansen”). The first stop on the island is called “Nordiska Museet/Vasa”, but several others follow.

A more pittoresque way to enter the island is by ferry.

It starts closed to Slussen on the southwest end of Gamla Stan and goes to Gröna Lund.

Yellow = Tunnelbana/Bus station “Slussen” on Södermalm
Red = Ferry departure “Stockholm Slussen kajen”
Green = Ferry arrival “Gröna Lund / Stockholm Allmänna gränd brygg”

From here you walk through the short street at Gröna Lund. Then turn right to take a walk to Rosendals passing nice villas or left to reach other attractions.

I already picked my dream houses. As Djurgården is royal property I just have to become a friend or relative of the king before getting a chance to move in. I’ll try my very best.. 😉
